Kristi Chandler, MD

Kristie R. Chandler, MD, FAAP

Dr. Chandler has been practicing general pediatrics in Montgomery County since moving to The Woodlands in 1997. She has witnessed many changes as our population has increased, patient needs have expanded, and medical services have advanced at record pace. Such growth was largely the reason for the inception of Hometown Pediatrics.

Dr. Chandler, though a die-hard Aggie, received her medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1992. She completed her pediatrics internship and residency at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. Throughout her two decades living in The Woodlands, Dr. Chandler has served the medical community heading numerous hospital pediatric committees. She has two sons who graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station. Ella habla español.

Hometown Trivia! An avid triathlete, Dr. Chandler’s perseverance helped her to swim, bike, run and complete her first 140.6 mile Ironman at Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in the summer of 2008 with four generations of family members cheering her on! She then went on to finish the inaugural Ironman Texas in The Woodlands setting a personal record.

Tony John, MD

Tony John, MD, FAAP

Dr. John received his medical degree in 2002 from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He performed his Pediatrics residency at the same institution, working in the Texas Medical Center at Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, as well as Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital. Following his training, Dr. John joined Hometown Pediatrics as one its founding partners. Always involved in the local community, Dr. John has participated in numerous hospital committees (including a term as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital) and is actively involved in the children's ministry of his church.

Hometown Trivia! Dr. John is a huge fan of all things sci-fi and superheroes, which he enthusiastically shares with his son!

Mona Smith, MD

Mona Smith, MD, FAAP

Dr. Smith received her medical degree in 1984 from King Fasail University College of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. She practiced in Saudi Arabia for two years before moving to the United States, where she then completed a pediatric residency at The University of California at Irvine. She subsequently served as the program’s chief resident, educating future pediatricians. Dr. Smith practiced pediatrics in California and Connecticut before moving to Texas in 2000. Before coming on board with Hometown Pediatrics, Dr. Smith practiced for years at The Woodlands Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, for a time as Kelsey-Seybold’s staff hospitalist. In this role, she gained valuable experience caring for both newborns and sick children admitted to The Woodlands’ Memorial Hermann and St. Luke’s hospitals.

Hometown Trivia! Dr. Smith completed a half-marathon in San Antonio in 2009. She still enjoys running, as well as traveling with her husband & daughter.

Sarah Moore, MD

Sarah E. Moore, MD, FAAP

Dr. Moore received her medical degree in 2007 from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Upon graduation, she joined the Baylor College of Medicine pediatric residency program caring for patients at Texas Children's Hospital and Ben Taub General Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. In her final year of residency, she was privileged to serve as Chief Resident for the program. After completion of her residency, Dr. Moore began her practice with the physician staff at Texas Children's Pediatrics-Piney Point. A family move to The Woodlands provided her the opportunity to join Hometown Pediatrics.

Hometown Trivia! Dr. Moore was raised in Klein, Texas. She is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys participating in neighborhood activities with her husband and two daughters. Relaxing time includes triathlons, hot yoga and reading. In 2017, Dr. Moore competed in her very first Ironman (Texas) and crushed the course, finishing at 10:33:34! We are so proud of her!

Amanda Hathaway, MD

Amanda E. Hathaway, MD, FAAP

Dr. Hathaway received her medical degree in 2009 from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. She continued her pediatrics residency at the same school, where she took care of patients at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center and LBJ Hospital.

Having lived in The Woodlands since birth until college, she returned "home" after residency to practice as a newborn and pediatric hospitalist at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, Houston Northwest Medical Center and Tomball Regional Medical Center.

Hometown Trivia! Dr. Hathaway is a life-long Houston Astros fan and loves to watch (and try to play!) just about any sport. She loves to share her enthusiasm for athletics with her husband and 2 kids!

Rachelle Mai, MD

Rachelle M. Mai, MD, FAAP

Dr. Mai received her medical degree in 2019 from Texas A&M Health Science Center. She completed her pediatrics residency at Mercy St. Vincent/Nationwide Children's Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. During her final year of residency, she piloted an infant CPR project for parents in the newborn nursery, which continues today. Upon completing her training, Dr. Mai moved to the Woodlands and treated patients at Texas Children's Urgent Care before joining Hometown Pediatrics.

Hometown Trivia! Dr. Mai loves crocheting, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and kayaking. She's trying to learn to roller skate, but it is still a work in progress. She loves exploring the parks and trails in The Woodlands with her husband and daughter.
